Questions I get asked.
What kind of guitar do I play?
I play pretty much whatever I'm asked. Singer songwriters like me because I'm a great accompanist. I do great work for soloists with my VG-88 guitar synth and some good pads. I like fusions of Country with Jazz and Funk. I like dance music. I really love latin. I've played guitar in punk bands, funk bands, function bands, soul bands and wedding bands. I've played the main stage and the social club next door. My recorded guitar sound keeps attracting attention from other players. I've a huge amount of recording experience at all levels. If I'm honest I'm not much of a blues man although I can bluff it for 16 bars. I like to get my toys out.
What kind of music do I play?
Good question. Left to my own devices I drop into a funky, fusion, rhythmic style that might put you in mind of a period in time somewhere between 1972 and 1978 in a geographical location that could have the Pacific coast on one edge. Another day I might be learning to play a Mark Knopfler song. Day after that I'm figuring out what Richard Thompson was doing. I am bloody great at rhythmic chops and dance music (cos that's where I started). I bloody love NY '80's Garage. I sometimes DJ for the hell of it.
Why, what kind of music do *you* play?
Who's my favourite guitarist?
You might as well ask me if I prefer salt or pepper. In no particular order; Glenn Campbell, Carlos Santana, Denny Diaz, Larry Carlton, Lee Ritenour, Adrian Belew, Al Di Meola, John Schofield, Nile Rogers, Prince, Chris Stein, Bruce Conte, James Honeyman-Scott, Elliot Randall, Richard Thompson, Walter Becker, Earl Klugh. etc. etc. etc.
Am I in a band?
I'm proud to regularly play guitar for Mireille Mathlener, Bashema Hall, Jump Mama, Nicky Johns and a bunch of my other friends. But my friends sometimes do other stuff as well. So if you have something that I can help with, give me a call by all means. Nobody here is married right now and I like to keep busy. As a rule if I can - I will.
Am I busy?
Not too busy for you...
Where do I play?
I play regularly in the South West of the UK. That means Bath, Bristol, Swindon, Taunton and all points in between. I also play pretty much wherever I'm asked in the UK and elsewhere, depending of course...
What's my favourite guitar?
Depends very much on what I'm doing that evening. If I'm accompanying a friend who's a singer - songwriter I'll pack my Strat Plus (fitted with a Roland GK-2A pickup), probably my AER amp, Roland VG-88 and a bunch of leads and toys. I usually bring along an acoustic guitar just in case. If it's a rock show then I'm packing my Mesia and a big old speaker cab, f-off pedal board and a Telecaster or two. At an acoustic show it's just me and probably my old Taylor. A funky jazz gig means my Thin Line Telecaster and either my Mesia or my Roland Cube. I can play loud or quiet, it's up to the show. All of my kit packs down into rolling cases for festivals and shared bills. Recording? The Boogie sounds awesome, re-valved recently and just too sweet. Mesia is a rock n' roll grunter, great for attitude. For anything longer than a day or so recording I'd probably just bring everything.
Can I read music?
I can follow a score, my reading gets better or worse depending on how much of it I do. Sight reading the dots for guitar is tough so don't ask me. Charts no problem.
Do I sing?
Yes!
Do I play piano, mandolin, tuba, bagpipes?
I figure that there's still plenty left in the guitar for me to learn and when I truly have found everything there is to know, then I'll find another instrument. I'm a specialist. But I can hack around on keys if you need it.
Could I have a demo?
